For me it was the Captain Crunch with the Crunch Berries.
Why did I love it?
For the commercial. I can't remember the commercial today but I can still remember getting excited about it. I can remember telling my folks "SSHH!!!!" several times when the commercial was on TV (and they also remember that). I loved that cereal and used to eat it dry.
I can remember my aunt wanting the toy one time and asking if that was okay. I said sure and she poured the entire box of cereal into this huge salad bowl. Big mistake.
After that I would think, "Well I can use that bowl . . ." So after school, when I'd have my little homework and be parked in front of the TV doing it, I'd have poured the Cap 'n Crunch into that. My parents would say, "Marcia, where is the cereal going?" Because we were always out (because I was eating about a box of it a day).
Thing is, I had it again in my 30s. I switched to a bran cereal at 18 (Post's Bran cereal). And I hadn't had it in years. So I saw it and thought, "Oh, once for old time's sake."
It tasted like crap. Like crap with peanut butter on it.
I can't belive how much I hated it. Maybe it's just made for kids. Or maybe that commercial was so great that it convinced me the cereal tasted good?
