TV, for example, is a visual medium. So you probably should be noting looks at least from time to time. What Gibson's talking about is catty and bitchy comments. And she's pointing out that men don't get their looks appraised. But sometimes they should. When yet another middle-aged, boxy body-type man plays some character who's supposed to be catnip to women, yeah, it's time to call out their looks.
But as much as I agree with Erin Gibson's article, I wonder if she's wrong?
Wrong in the sense that these female critics doing what she decries need to stop?
Men do it all the time. Is Erin not aware of that?
One of the most called out TV writers by Ava and C.I. is Tom Shayles of the Washington Post because he trashes women, trashes shows in which women are the lead, etc. And he's done that forever. For decades. At least going back to the 70s.
So maybe Erin Gibson should call out some males?
Or maybe she could find the time -- or make it -- to praise women who do real work. Like Ava and C.I. They are the best TV critics and the only ones who are feminists.
I'm not talking about writing "Such and such star is dating . . ." I'm talking once a week you take on TV. That's them. They do it. And they're pretty good at books as well, check out "Carole King's Conditioned Role and Desire (Ava and C.I.)" which is perfection.
