So above is a hilarious comic, Isaiah's The World Today Just Nuts "White House Correspondents Dinner" -- I love it, LOVE IT!!!! I also love Kat's "Kat's Korner: You're no Emmett Till" and appreciate that she called out the song. I agree with her take on that song. I am sure the woman who wrote it wasn't trying to be racist but it is offensive.
(I'm being kind and not naming the woman.)
I also applaud Ava and C.I. For what? First off, they worked on all the articles at Third except highlights. Second they co-wrote these two:
That's their TV piece and then, with Ann, they wrote the Diane piece which takes forever. Anytime there's a number piece, it takes forever because C.I. is obsessive about it and checks and rechecks and rechecks. The way around that is for a group of people to step up and say, "We'll do the numbers." And she's fine with that and won't ask you or second guess you but if she's doing the math, she does it over and over. So that probably took at least 30 minutes -- at least -- just adding the figures and again and again.
And they were tired. We were all tired.
But when things posted that evening?
The news broke about ObL. And Ava and C.I. knew they had to weigh in. So they quickly wrote
I am blown away by that. They dealt with facts, they dealt with realities. They went out on a limb at a time when the hysteria was gripping the nation. It was still there this morning which is why Iraq Veterans Against the War posted a brief comment saying they'd have a comment later in the day.
Later in the day came and went.
IVAW could never figure out their position.
I'm sure they know their position -- or what they'd like to say.
It's just scary for a lot of people to go out on the limb.
Ava and C.I. wrote and didn't care, didn't try to shape it for public effect, didn't try to curry favor. Their honesty is always refreshing.
Here's C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
