At least nine advertisers have announced plans to pull their ads from Wonkette after the political blog ran a post making fun of Sarah Palin’s son, Trig.
Wonkette’s Jack Stuef wrote an item Monday poking fun at a poem that had been posted by Team Sarah for Trig’s birthday, with the refrain “Oh little boy, what are you dreaming about?” Stuef cracked: “What’s he dreaming about? Nothing. He’s r****ded.” Trig Palin has Down syndrome.
It took about 36 hours, as David Weigel noted at Slate, but the conservative blogosphere, led by Big Journalism editor-in-chief Dana Loesch and Big Government writer Derek Hunter, picked up on the post and used it to drive a campaign to pressure Wonkette’s advertisers to drop the site.
That's from an article at POLITICO by Keach Hagey. What the hell was Wonkette thinking? And that's a trashy site. Alex Pareen is among the Wonkette alumni -- that should give you an idea of the level of 'intelligence' that flows through Wonkette.
A mother writes a poem about her child and Wonkette sees the perfect response as, "Let's savage the little kid! Let's mock him for being special-needs!" That is disgusting. That piece of trash needs to be fired. His nearly a day suspension demonstrates Wonkette really doesn't give a damn about what happened but is pretending too because they fear they will lose even more sponsors.
And if you're not getting how they refuse to take accountability at Wonkette, The Daily Caller notes:
Wonkette, after initially defending its decision to publish the post, has now replaced it with an apology. “A post on this page satirizing Sarah Palin using her baby as a political prop was very badly done and sounded like the author was mocking the child and not just Sarah Palin/Sarah Palin’s followers,” reads the text that has replaced the original post.
