By contrast, C.I.'s held her accountable for that awful speech Hillary gave on Monday. Hold her accountable for what we know she did. She needs to be held to a standard as we would do anyone else. And I am comfortable holding her accountable for words we hear coming out of her mouth. I don't need anyone to tell me she said it. I just go to the State Dept. website and I can view it or read the text of it.
A story I can easily follow is that Amazon, which was hosting WikiLeaks, dumped them today. WikiLeaks Twitter feed notes:
- If Amazon are so uncomfortable with the first amendment, they should get out of the business of selling books.
- WikiLeaks servers at Amazon ousted. Free speech the land of the free--fine our $ are now spent to employ people in Europe.
Were this a physical store, a brick and mortar store, Amazon wouldn't dare do this. They know they would be protested and called out. Amazon got a call from Joe Lieberman's office and immediately buckled.
Do you know the book American Psycho?
It's filth. It's sexist and just disgusting all around.
I thought that when it came out. It never made it into hard cover because the original publisher rejected it. And so it was released in softcover when it found another publisher. And many groups protested that bookstores were carrying it.
I think the book's pure filth.
I didn't protest any bookstore from carrying it. I remember being at my local Walden Books (are they even around anymore?) and there was a picket line of five or six people. They actually pissed me off not just because against censorship -- they were calling for the book to be pulled from the store -- but also because they harassed me going in with, "Don't buy that book! You're not going to buy that book!" I said, "Don't you ever tell me what I can buy or what I can't" -- immediately they just knew I must be a Brett Ellis Easton freak (I'm not) and they started hurling insults.
Now, to be clear, they could have been out there with signs calling the book sexist and I would've flashed them a right on.
But I don't support censorship. And I've never known a real bookstore that did.
WikiLeaks point about free speech is a solid one. WikiLeaks is guilty of no crime and Amazon dumped them to appease the US Senate. That's censorship. I will take my business elsewhere. I hope others do the same. (If you can't, that's fine. I doubt few people will join me in this.)
