He may even be smarter about the music business than her.
It was explained to me yesterday that Beyonce's sales are a problem right now. The album's selling -- at least in it's debut. But it's like "Helen Reddy or Celine Dion in the final stage of big success. The albums sale haven't faded yet but the hits are gone." And she's released two singles from the album and neither has broken the top 20. I mean on the Hot 100 or pop. On R&B, they've done even worse.
So it would appear that Beyonce's days as a sales force are over. The guy I was talking to is a VP at a big label and he was among the guests at C.I.'s yesterday. He'd read my post about how Katey Perry's "Last Friday Night" was a fun song and Beyonce was just tired.
He and his staff read pretty much anything about the charts. So we were talking and I said that Beyonce's songs were too blah and dull and mentioned Katey Perry's new song -- and I'm not a Katey Perry fan -- and he said, "I was just reading someone blogging about that online." I said, "That was me!!!"
Here's C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
