I'm so sick of do as I say, not as I do. You're busy and you have to focus on your father. Got it. Don't have a problem with it.
But don't try to guilt other people into doing your work for you. 'Hey, these people need help and I can't so I need you to do it I've got bad things going on in my life . . .'
She wants people to send money and organize sending money. To protesters in Wisconsin. Either you do it or you focus on your father. Don't ask me to do what you can't or won't.
That's not how it works.
I also agree with Lambert in the comments about where money would need to go. And that's why I'm not linking to her post. I'm not big on the Wisconsin story but if Lambert finds a local give to, I'll note that here and say, "Do it if you want and have the money." (A lot of people don't have the money.) I'm not into giving to MoveOn.
0. Actually, Corrente did step up. I did, with breakfasts, others did, with Ians, others did with blankets and earplugs (and blankets). We could do more, for sure.
1. I have to say that I had planned to go into fund-raising mode myself very shortly, so it would be super-excellent if we made the pie grow, as it were.
2. Hopefully I'll have the answer to that up VERY shortly, I'll be working on it tonight. It's the PB 2.0 concept made real, with the micro-grant/loan concept. I'll do the math when I do the soft launch of the site. And we could apply the micro-grant/loan concept to MI and WI and sustain Corrente for the long term (which, like it or not, is the baseline for me. No excellent editorial product, no virtuous cycle of being in the forefront of the story, no funding enabled. "First, place the oxygen mask...").
3. Here is a chore for somebody. With the money that we really will raise, I would really like to use a rent-minimizing grant/loan delivery model. That is, I far prefer to deliver goods or services directly to protesters, if possible directly to their encampments, than to intermediaries, no matter who. Shorter: Ian's Pizza rulez. Dem Party sucks. As do their enablers. I feel a heck of a lot better about helping the protesters, a small business, and a taxi service than I do about funding today's equivalent of the Dean Bat. But I also need to know that strategy works. That's the chore, for some helpful reader. Is Ian's Pizza the only model for success, or are there others?
If his Ian's Pizza post hadn't gone up on the weekend, I would have just copied and pasted it in here. But since it went up on a weekend, I didn't see it until a Monday or a Tuesday. (I try to stay away from the net as much as possible these days. I spend too much time on it.)
Michelle Obama's in trouble with a number of people and it goes to what CD doesn't grasp. People take somethings very seriously. We take our money seriously (especially in a bad economy) and people take their child raising seriously. Michelle needs to find another cause. I know this is her third or fourth attempt at finding a cause but someone should have told her, "When you're talking about people raising their own child, you're on dangerous ground." And she is. Right now she's being attacked by some on the right over letting her children eat ribs (and some kooks are defending it -- low cal or high, they shouldn't have been eating ribs if she wants to present healthy and if you don't get that you're probably White). ANd that's how it's always going to be because you've butted into a home with your 'war on obesity' and people are going to watch you very closely because they are pissed.
And they should be. It's not the First Lady's business. Find something to do with crime -- I think Michelle could be a wonderful spokesperson for sexual assault and raise awareness on that issue -- or something to pretty up the planet. But back off of people's kids. When you try to do what Michelle's doing, you come off like the neighborhood's stuck up know-it-all. Like that woman that lived next to Roseanne for one season. Nobody wants that and if Michelle doesn't drop that real quick, her negatives are going to go even higher. I can't believe no one at the White House thought about that before she started this latest 'my cause.' (If you're keeping track, there's been Green gardens and there's been military families already -- something else that I'm forgetting -- and none have taken. She's forever in search of an identity.)
Here's C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
